Elk Antlers

One of the most popular antlers requested by our customers to have chandeliers made from is Elk, and it's no wonder.  Elk Antler is large and majestic.   Unlike Whitetail or mule deer antler, elk antler can grow as long as four feet in length and weigh as much as 20 pounds.

Only the bull elk, or male elk have antlers.  They start to grow in a young males second year and are referred to as a spike because of the single point on each antler.  Elk antlers are comprised of bone covered in velvet.  The velvet is a soft vascular coating that provides nutrients the antlers need to grow at the rate of almost one inch per day.  These antler start growing as soon as the elk drop their previous years antler, beginning in late march/early april.  By mid-August, these antlers will have reached their maximum growth, when the velvet dries up and  falls away, or is rubbed off by the bull in preparation of the fall rut. *

Antler Worx uses these collected sheds to build one of a kind lighting creations for homes, offices, and commercial spaces all over the country.  Check out our elk creations here on the website.   We would love to build your elk masterpiece.
